How fake account detection works
What is a fake account?
A fake account is an account that is created with the intent to manipulate the platform or its users. This can include accounts created without real-world identity (disposable email addresses, undeliverable email addresses, etc.), accounts created to scrape data, or accounts created to engage in other harmful activities.
How does Rupt detect fake accounts?
Rupt helps you detect fake accounts by analyzing the behavior of the account including the following:
- Email address
- IP address
- Device ID
- Browser fingerprint
- Abuse patterns
- Other signals
Once a fake or suspicious account is detected, Rupt will recommend actions to take to challenge
, restrict
, challenge_and_restrict
, or deny
the account. For example, you may want to challenge the account by asking the user to verify their phone number or email address. Rupt will give you a challenge id which you can use to track the status of the challenge.
Taking action on fake accounts
Once you have taken action on a fake account, you can use the challenge id to issue a challenge and to verify the user's response. Once the challenge is verified, Rupt will remember that the account has been verified and will not flag the account as suspicious in the future.
If the account fails the challenge, you should deny or delete the account.
